Little Luxuries Are Kind of the Point
We're going to say something that might be controversial:
You don't need a reason to have nice things.
Not everything has to be practical. Not every purchase needs a five-point justification. And sometimes “because I absolutely love it” is a perfectly respectable reason to bring something home.
We happen to think the little luxuries are part of what makes life fun.
Luxury Is Personal
Luxury doesn't necessarily mean a designer label or an eye-watering price tag.
Sometimes it does.
We're not judging.
But luxury can also be slipping into ridiculously soft sheets at the end of a long day. It's a beautiful candle burning while you're cleaning the kitchen. Fresh flowers from the grocery store. The hand soap that costs a little more but makes you happy every single time you use it.
It's choosing the beautiful version when you can.
Not because anyone else will notice.
Because you will.
Make the Ordinary Feel Special
Most of life isn't made up of vacations, celebrations and perfectly planned occasions.
It's Tuesday mornings.
It's folding laundry. Making dinner. Getting ready for work. Sitting on the sofa at the end of the day wondering how it's somehow already 9:30.
That's exactly why the details matter.
Put the flowers on the nightstand.
Drink from the pretty glass.
Buy the absurdly soft throw.
Make your bed with sheets you actually look forward to climbing into.
You live your everyday life far more often than you live your special-occasion life. It deserves some attention.
Buy Fewer Things. Love Them More.
Having beautiful things doesn't have to mean having more things.
We'd rather find something wonderful than fill a room simply because there's an empty corner.
Wait for the piece you keep thinking about. Choose the one with the beautiful texture. Buy something because it makes you smile when you walk past it.
A home—and a life—filled with things you genuinely love will always feel more luxurious than one filled with things you simply bought.
And Occasionally, Indulge
You don't have to turn every ordinary Tuesday into an event.
But every now and then?
Use the good china.
Order dessert.
Buy yourself the flowers.
Get the nicer sheets.
Light the candle before the company arrives—or better yet, when no company is coming at all.
Life is happening now.
You might as well make it beautiful.
